Social Support Services

Social Support/Neighbour Aid

Research shows that if we don’t have that social contact with others, our health and well being suffers. That is why our Social Support/Neighbour Aid service exists….”because the small and simple needs can make all the difference between a life lived and a life endured”.

Our Social Support/Neighbour Aid services are designed so that people have the opportunity to continue to be involved in their community as their health and mobility decline.

A team of experienced and caring volunteers can assist with tasks like:

  • taking someone shopping and pushing the trolley or getting groceries from the shelf, then helping with groceries at home;
  • stopping by for a visit, chat and cuppa on a regular basis;
  • helping with letter writing, posting mail or maybe a game of cards;
  • helping out with small odd jobs around the home or yard.

We also have regular group activities like:

  • Weekly bus trips
  • Games mornings
  • Men’s Group
  • Small group outings

Volunteers and clients are matched for compatibility and services are monitored for changes.

MCCS Social Support2

Part of the service we provide is support for carers or clients by guiding them to other organisations who may be able assist with needs beyond our scope.

How do I access your social support and what is the cost?

Some comments from our satisfied clients:

  • “This service is absolutely wonderful, gets us out of the house, meeting others and generally gives us a life we wouldn’t have otherwise.”
  • “I particularly like the way all my helpers are in harmony with my little dogs. It makes me feel very happy to see them and my dogs love them.”
  • “The caring, cheerful, efficient services offered have enabled us to continue living at home without much of the stress we would normally feel as the disabilities of age and failing health enter our lives.”
